RV Plumbing and Water System Repair in Placentia, California

RV plumbing repair covers fresh water leaks, failed pumps, cracked holding tanks, seized dump valves, blocked drains and water heater faults on Suburban, Atwood and Truma units. Jobs run about $285 to $8,500. Because most RV plumbing lives inside walls and under floors, access drives the labor. All work is performed in-shop, ten minutes from Placentia.

How do you find a hidden water leak in an RV?

By pressurizing the system and isolating sections rather than opening walls at random. The fresh water side is pressure tested with the pump off, and a pressure that will not hold proves a leak exists before anyone starts cutting access into cabinetry or flooring.

Once a leak is proven, isolation narrows it. Sections are valved off or capped in sequence until the pressure holds, which localizes the leak to a run rather than to the whole coach and turns a speculative teardown into a targeted one.

The most common leak points are crimp fittings on PEX that were under crimped at the factory, the pump inlet and outlet connections, the city water inlet check valve, and the connections behind the water heater where heat cycling works fittings loose over time.

Can a cracked RV holding tank be repaired?

Occasionally, but replacement is usually the right call. Polyethylene tanks are difficult to bond reliably, they flex constantly on the road, and a repaired seam that fails later dumps waste into the belly of the coach, which is a far more expensive problem than the tank itself.

Access is what costs money. Many tanks sit above a sealed belly pan and below the floor, so removal means dropping the pan, disconnecting the vent, drain and level sensors, and sometimes removing a section of underside insulation and skirting to get clearance.

Dump valves are the more common repair. A blade valve that will not seal or will not move usually has a hardened seal or debris on the blade, and replacing it while the belly is open is far cheaper than returning to do it after the tank job is closed up.

Why is my RV water heater not producing hot water?

It depends on the design. Suburban units use a tank with an anode rod and separate gas and electric paths. Atwood tanks use an aluminum tank with no anode. Truma units are on demand and fault differently, reporting through their control panel rather than through a reset button.

On tank units the split is diagnostic gold: if gas heats and electric does not, the element or its thermostat has failed. If electric heats and gas does not, the fault is at the gas valve, the igniter, the thermocouple or the burner tube, which spiders love to block in this climate.

Suburban tanks also depend on the anode rod, which is a sacrificial part. An anode that has been left until it is fully consumed means the tank itself has started corroding, and at that point the repair becomes a heater replacement rather than a fifteen dollar part.

Questions we get asked

How much does RV plumbing repair cost?
A simple fitting or pump replacement can be near the $285 low end. Locating and repairing a leak behind a wall runs higher because of access labor. A black tank replacement with belly pan removal on a large fifth wheel can reach $8,500 once tank, valves and sensors are included.
My water pump keeps cycling even with everything off. Why?
That is the classic sign of a leak on the pressurized side, or a failed check valve in the pump itself. The system loses pressure, the pump senses it and runs again. It needs to be found, because a slow leak inside a wall is how sidewall delamination and subfloor rot begin.
Do you replace the anode rod during a water heater service?
On Suburban tanks yes, since the anode is sacrificial and protects the steel tank. Atwood aluminum tanks do not use one and take a plastic drain plug instead. Installing an anode in an Atwood is a common error that accelerates corrosion rather than preventing it.
Can you fix a plumbing leak that has already damaged the floor?
Yes, and we handle both halves. The plumbing repair stops the water, and the interior work replaces the wet subfloor and any failed wall panel. Placentia owners often discover the two are inseparable, since the floor cannot be rebuilt properly while the line above it is still leaking.
