The resistance usually has a physical cause: a dragging seal, a room that has sagged, debris in the track, worn nylon guide blocks or an opening that is no longer square. Resyncing the motors without finding that cause simply resets the clock until the next cycle pulls it out again.

The gear tracks themselves wear. Aluminum teeth round over where the motor spends the most torque, and once a track is worn the motor climbs rather than driving, which sounds like a stutter or a chirp at the same point in travel every time the room moves.

BAL Accu-Slide uses a cable and drum arrangement under the room, and its characteristic failures are cable stretch, a frayed cable, or a drum that has slipped, which produces a room that runs unevenly front to rear and eventually will not seal at the top.

Slide toppers matter as well. A sagging or torn topper lets water pool on the roof of the extended room and then dump directly onto the top seal, which overwhelms a seal that is otherwise perfectly serviceable and reads as a mystery leak to the owner.
