Rivian R1S SUV Collision and Panel Work Near Placentia

The three-row interior also has to come apart carefully. Third row seats, trim, headliner and the wiring and airbag components routed through the pillars all get removed, tagged and reinstalled, and the occupant restraint components in the affected area are inspected rather than assumed intact.

What is involved in panoramic roof, roof rail and liftgate repair on an R1S?

The panoramic glass roof is a bonded panel, not a bolted one, and the roof rails and their mounting points sit in a load path that carries into the pillars. Rear liftgate work adds a powered mechanism, a separate glass hatch, a wiper circuit, and a rear camera whose aim depends on the panel it is mounted to.

Bonded glass work is governed by urethane, primer and cure time, not by how fast the panel can be set. The pinch weld is prepared and primed to specification, the correct urethane bead profile is laid, and the vehicle stays put through the safe drive-away time rather than being handed back early because the paperwork was ready.

Liftgate damage is rarely just a skin. Hinges, gas struts or the powered strut motors, the latch and striker relationship, the wiring harness through the flexible conduit and the glass hatch seal all get checked, because a gate that shuts but does not seal turns into a wet cargo floor and a musty interior.

Roof rail mounting points and crossbar hardware get inspected after any roof or upper quarter impact. A rail that was loaded at the moment of impact can pull its mount, and that is a structural fastener location, not a trim screw.

What sensor recalibration does a daily-driven family R1S need after repair?

An R1S in Placentia service is doing school runs, freeway commuting on the 91 and weekend trips, which means the driver assistance stack is working constantly and any calibration error gets noticed. My R1S was hit in the rear quarter. Can that panel be replaced?
On a closed SUV body the rear quarter is structural and tied into the D-pillar, roof rail and rear floor, so the answer is a sectioning decision made from OEM procedure and measured damage rather than a straight swap. We measure at teardown, photograph what we find, and document the sectioning plan for the carrier before any cutting starts.
Does the panoramic glass roof have to be replaced if it is cracked?
A cracked bonded glass roof panel is a replacement, not a repair, and the job is governed by pinch weld preparation, primer, urethane bead profile and cure time. The vehicle stays in the shop through the specified safe drive-away time. We also inspect the surrounding roof structure, because the impact that cracked the glass usually moved something else.
Will my driver assistance features work exactly as before after the repair?
That is the target and calibration is how we get there. Every camera and radar affected by the repair is calibrated to the OEM target setup, ride height is verified first on an air-sprung vehicle, and a post-repair scan documents the codes cleared and confirmed. If a sensor fails calibration we replace it rather than hand back a system that reports ready but aims wrong.
How long will my R1S be in the shop?
A bumper cover with a calibration is a few days. A structural rear quarter repair with a bonded roof panel and three-row interior teardown runs considerably longer, commonly one to three weeks depending on parts availability and carrier approval timing.
