Refrigerated Reefer Truck Body and Insulated Panel Repair Serving Placentia
A reefer body is an insulated pressure vessel for cold, and any repair that breaks the vapor barrier turns the foam core into a wet, heavy, poorly performing box. OCRV Center repairs refrigerated bodies for Placentia operators in-shop in Yorba Linda, covering Carrier Transicold and Thermo King unit mounting, front bulkhead damage, insulated panel punctures, floor drains and door seal integrity.
Why is a punctured reefer panel more serious than a punctured dry box?
In a dry van a puncture is a hole. In an insulated body it is a path for moisture into the foam core. Once the core wets it never dries, the panel gains hundreds of pounds, the R value collapses and the reefer unit runs constantly trying to hold setpoint.
A correct repair restores the outer skin, the foam core and the vapor barrier as a system. We cut back to dry, sound core, remove any wetted foam, replace the core material, and re-establish a continuous barrier before the outer skin goes back on. A patch bonded over wet core is a repair that fails silently.
Interior liner damage matters just as much as exterior damage. A torn liner at the wall base or near the door threshold lets wash water and condensate into the core from inside, which is a very common failure on trucks that get pressure washed daily. Liner repairs are sealed at every edge and fastener.
Floor drain channels and the door threshold are the low points where water collects. Blocked or crushed drains keep standing water against the panel edges, and a threshold that has been beaten down by pallet jacks stops sealing. We restore both while the body is open, because they cause the next puncture repair.
How do you repair reefer unit mounting and door sealing?
The refrigeration unit hangs off the front bulkhead, and that bulkhead carries a heavy, vibrating load through every mile and every pothole. Front end collision damage and long term mount fatigue both show up in the same place.
Carrier Transicold and Thermo King units mount through the bulkhead with a substantial frame. Cracked or elongated mounting holes, distorted mounting frames and torn bulkhead skin all get repaired with the vapor barrier restored around every penetration, since each fastener through an insulated panel is a potential moisture path.
The reefer unit's own fuel tank, its mounting brackets and its supply and return lines are inspected where the damage is nearby. A damaged reefer fuel tank strap or a chafed line is a fire and contamination risk and is inexpensive to correct while the front of the body is already open.
Door gaskets and seals determine whether the box holds temperature at all. Compressed, torn or hardened gaskets, bent door frames and worn cam locks all leak cold. We replace gaskets, straighten the frame back to a sealing surface, and verify closure before release.
For Placentia operators hauling temperature sensitive freight we document the repair with photos of the core, the barrier restoration and the sealing surfaces, so there is a record supporting temperature integrity for the carrier and the shipper.
